Dermaplaning is a deep exfoliating treatment that removes dead skin and peach fuzz from your face.  The surface of your skin is gently scraped with a scalpel - a process similar to shaving.   This temporary removal of facial hair and dead skin cells will result in softer, smoother skin without the use of chemicals.

Contraindications/side effects of Dermaplaning

The procedure may irritate sensitive skin.  Although the procedure is great for cleaning the pores and hair follicles to help prevent acne breakouts, it should never be performed on skin with active or inflamed acne.

30-40 minutes

What can I expect after a dermaplaning treatment?

Some light redness may be experienced.  You can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.  Although make-up can be worn right after the treatment, we recommend waiting until the following day. 

What aftercare will I need?

Since your skin barrier will be more vulnerable after dermaplaning, a chemical-free sunscreen is needed.  Your Riva provider will prepare a post-care plan customized for you.

Will dermaplaning my face make my hair grow back thicker?

NO.  Although the shaved hair may feel different when it grows back, the hair will not grow back darker, thicker, or at a faster rate.  The density and texture of the hair will not change. 

How often do I need dermaplaning treatments?

Since the facial hair will eventually grow back, this is a procedure that is repeated to maintain the results.  We recommend waiting at least a month between treatments and longer for clients with sensitive skin.
