Chemical Peels
Riva MEDSPA offers various types of light to moderate chemical peels to address your skin concerns. Your Riva provider will recommend a peel that is compatible with your skin type, expectations, and lifestyle. We do not offer deep chemical peels, as there are better alternatives to this more invasive type of treatment with more predictable outcomes, less risk, and greatly reduced downtime.
What is a Light to Moderate Chemical Peel?
This non-invasive treatment exfoliates the upper layers of dead and damaged skin, promotes skin cell regeneration, and stimulates collagen and elastin production. This peel is also referred to as the glycolic acid peel, the AHA chemical peel, or the salicylic acid chemical peel. The formulation of the chemical solution used depends on the needs of the individual patient.
What conditions can a chemical peel treat?
- fine lines and mild skin imperfections
- acne and mild acne scars
- chronic dry skin
- uneven pigmentation
- sun damage
Multiple treatments are usually necessary to achieve optimal results.
What is the treatment like?
The chemical solution will be applied to your clean skin in the treatment areas. You may feel a warm or tingling sensation as the chemicals penetrate the skin, however an anesthetic is typically not necessary. After a period of time, the chemical solution will be removed from the skin and a soothing lotion will be applied.
How long does the treatment take?
The process takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending upon the type of peel.
What are the side-effects?
With most of the peels we offer, you can return to your normal activities immediately. Side effects, including degree of skin redness, flaking, or peeling will vary with the type and intensity of the peel you receive. Your Riva provider will discuss the side-effects of your treatment with you during your consultation.
