Microdermabrasion

During a microdermabrasion procedure, an applicator with an abrasive surface is used to gently sand the outer layer of the skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that rejuvenates the skin and improves overall skin tone and texture.

Contraindications and Side-Affects

Your Riva provider will consider your medical information, including any allergies and recent cosmetic procedures and surgeries to determine if you are a good candidate for microdermabrasion. 

You may experience mild tenderness, redness, and minor swelling after the procedure which normally resolves within a few hours after treatment.  Some minor bruising may also occur.

How do I prepare for the procedure?

You should avoid sun exposure, waxing, and using tanning creams, exfoliating creams and masks for a week prior to treatment. 

How long does the procedure take?

Microdermabrasion usually takes about one hour. 

Does the procedure hurt?

No.  Microdermabrasion is a comfortable treatment that doesn't require anesthesia or numbing.

What after-care is needed?

Your skin may be dry and flaky and will be more sensitive to the sun in the weeks following your procedure.  Use of a chemical-free sunscreen and professional grade moisturizer are important.  Avoid using topical acne medications for at least one day after treatment. Your Riva provider will provide you with a customized after care plan to enhance, protect and maintain your results.

How many treatments will I need?

You will see noticeable results immediately after the procedure. The number of microdermabrasion sessions needed will depend on the level of skin damage as well as your expectations. During your consultation, a plan will be developed by your Riva provider including the number of sessions you need to achieve your desired results, as well as a maintenance plan.
