Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatments

What is PRP?

PRP is a high platelet concentration of your own blood.  The platelets contain growth factors that stimulate the body's natural healing process.  These regenerative growth factors can promote skin healing, collagen production and other proteins that support the skin.

The use of PRP for musculoskeletal healing has been in use for many years, but it is somewhat new to the medical aesthetics industry.  Although inconclusive, there has been a great amount of research showing evidence of PRP's effectiveness in skin rejuvenation and hair loss treatment.

During a PRP procedure, your blood will be drawn (usually from your arm) and then spun out in a centrifuge to separate the PRP.  The PRP will then be injected or massaged into the skin, depending upon your specific treatment.

Riva MEDSPA offers the following PRP services:

PRP Facial Injections

Best known as the "Vampire Facelift".  PRP is injected into the face helping address:
-    Fine lines
-    Facial volume loss
-    Skin texture changes

This is a great alternative for patients with sensitivity to or have had adverse reactions to dermal fillers, and those who desire a natural approach to reducing fine lines and adding volume to the face.

Micdroneedling with PRP

Best known as the 'Vampire Facial'.  PRP is used in conjunction with the SkinPen (Microneedling)  to enhance the collagen and protein induction benefits of the procedure. The PRP is lightly massaged into the skin.  By accelerating the body's own natural healing process, microneedling with PRP can result in smoother, brighter and tighter skin, with diminished hyperpigmentation and scarring.

PRP Injections for Hair Loss

PRP is injected into the scalp. Although clinical research is not yet conclusive, many in the medical community think that PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft.

PRP Vaginal Rejuvenation

Best known as the 'O Shot', PRP is injected into the upper wall of the vagina and clitoris.  This procedure can be effective in treating sexual dysfunction or urine incontinence.  Treatment once per year is recommended.

How long will the PRP treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending upon your specific treatment , but it is normally a 20-30 minute procedure.  Vaginal procedures will take about an hour.

What are the risks of PRP treatment?

Since your own blood is used, there is minimal risk of allergic reaction, rejection or disease
transmission.  If PRP is injected, you may experience temporary irritation, swelling, itching, bruising and/or discoloration.  As with any injectable,  there is a slight risk of blood vessel or nerve injury, infection, calcification at the injection points and development of scar tissue.

Your Riva provider will thoroughly discuss the risks and contraindications with you.
